As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a heart and desire to serve. Whether at  home, at work or in church, I find great joy in giving time and effort into others. I never really understood that side of me but it just became who I am. I didn’t have any background in drugs and alcohol, or that  world at all, but I found a group of men that were broken in many ways, looking for those that wouldn’t push them aside.

An opportunity to volunteer at the Renewed Hope Thrift store was open and it was a perfect fit. I love retail and talking with others, and I got to serve others in a way that I never expected.

Now that I have had this privilege for some time and even moved to a staff position, I wouldn’t trade how God has used me, grown me and filled my heart with love for this ministry and these men. We are called to love others as Christians. That love takes many forms but starts with a humble heart, one willing to give without judgement.  The second is to bear one another’s burdens. To actually come under the weight another person is carrying and help them carry it. I am so grateful for opportunities in both these areas.

Ironically, as I thought I was helping them to heal and grow, I have gotten more joy, grown more and love more than I have ever given.
